How to Postpone Your Wedding with Grace

Casey Green Weddings, Wedding Planning, Invitation Checklis

Let’s face it. 2020 has not been the best year for a number of reasons. If you were planning on getting married this year, but have been forced to postpone your wedding date.

Here is a quick guide to hopefully make this difficult process as painless as possible.

Step 1 – Ask for New Dates

The first place to contact when you are considering postponing your wedding is your venue. Ask them what your options are. Are you able to change the date of your wedding without penalties? I have found most venues to be very open to helping you reschedule your wedding date with minimal penalties to the client. If you are able to change your date, ask your venue what date options you have. TIP: It might be a good idea to be a little flexible when it comes to your new date. Being open to a non-Saturday date can work in your favor by also increasing your chances your current vendors will also be available on this new date too.

Step 2 – Check Current Vendor Availability

Once you have determined your favorite new date options from your venue, it is now time to reach out to your vendors to check their availability. When you contact your vendors, be sure to ask if there will be any additional fees to consider when making this date change. It is good to know what additional costs may be coming your way before deciding to officially change your date. No one likes surprise additional charges.

Step 3 – Choose Your New Date

Once you have your vendor availability and you know if any additional charges will incur by making a date change, you can then decide what new date is best for you and your family.

Step 4 – Request Updated Vendor Agreements

Once the new date is official, it is important to request updated agreements from all your vendors. Be sure these new agreements include updated payment schedules and clearly outline any additional charges.

Step 5- Notify Your Guests

The next final step is to be sure to communicate the new date to your guests. Change the Date cards have become increasingly popular!
