Signage, one of the final wedding decor frontiers. Even though this is an element you often dive into after you have finalized many other details of your wedding, this is not a time to “phone in” these details. Your wedding signage is critical to helping guide the overall guest experience for your wedding day. These are key details not to skip!

The good news is, there are so many fun ways to customize your wedding signage for your wedding – these elements of your wedding should be fun to figure out.

Here are the wedding signage categories to for your wedding:

Directional Signs

These signs will guide guests throughout their wedding day experience – and are key. 🙂 Here are the main categories to consider:

  • Parking Signs: Clearly indicate parking locations.
  • Ceremony and Reception Directions: Direct guests to key locations, especially if your venue is expansive or involves multiple sites.
  • Welcome Sign: Depending on the layout of your venue, this is sometimes nice to have a welcome sign placed outside your ceremony/cocktail reception to confirm guests have arrived in the right space.
  • Restroom Signs: Clearly mark the way to restrooms for guest convenience.

Ceremony Signage

Again this will help guests know where to go and what to expect. Here is the list to have for your ceremony:

  • Reserved Seating Signs: Reserve seating for family and VIPs with designated signs on pews or chairs. We sometimes even place name tags on each chair if needed to be extra specific.
  • Unplugged Ceremony Signage: Politely request guests refrain from using devices to take photos during the ceremony.
  • Pick a Seat, Not a Side?: Nowadays I see most wedding ceremonies move away from a bride and groom “side”. However, some weddings still keep this tradition. Be sure to incorporate signage directing guests where to sit, if you fall into this traditional category.

Seating Chart

This is the sign (or decor element – you can get creative in this category) to direct guests to their seats. There are a couple of ways to do this:

  • Seating Charts: Display seating arrangements clearly for larger receptions, helping guests find their tables easily. This is usually displayed on an easel during cocktail hour.
  • Escort Cards: Guide guests to their specific seats if you have assigned seating via a card – or something more creative. Champagne walls (with tags of names and table numbers) are a fun trend. I have also seen couples connect the guest seating assignment to a guest gift/favor. Therefore, you can get as creative as you want in this category. Pro Tip:  If you opt to go this route, and are offering a plated meal for dinner, I STRONGLY recommend you have an additional place card (with the guests’ entree selection indicated on the card) at each place setting. This will ensure the catering staff will not struggle to serve your guests during dinner.

Bar & Menu Signs

These signs help communicate the food and beverage options to your guests. This will be exceptionally helpful if you’re featuring signature cocktails or if you have many guests with dietary restrictions.

  • Bar Menu Signs: Showcase drink options, including signature cocktails, to entice guests. Be sure to peruse Etsy for design ideas. There are some beautiful options to consider. Of course, it is always fun to name your signature cocktails after your pets.
  • Menu Signs: Display your meal options, especially for buffets or food stations, to help guests make informed choices. You can also opt to have individual menus printed for each place setting to also add to the overall look of your table and guest experience.

Table Numbers

This is a small signage detail – but it is very important! You can opt to simply rent or buy table numbers that blend with your overall table design. Or you can get creative and name your tables – maybe after locations you’ve traveled together or even feature photos of you and your partner at different ages (e.g. Table 1 features photos of the two of your when you were 1 year old)? Just some ideas – really the sky is the limit!

No matter what you choose – make sure your table numbers (or names) are easy to read.

Final Thoughts

Wedding signage should not only be beautiful but also functional, providing clear communication and enhancing the overall aesthetic of your celebration. By thoughtfully considering each type of signage, you can ensure your wedding day is well-organized, stylish, and full of personal touches. Here’s to a beautifully guided and memorable wedding day!

I hope this guide helps you navigate the various signage options and enhances both the style and functionality of your wedding!
